Everything I was looking for in Mexican. Very good food. I am a tex mex kinda guy and this was perfect for what me and my two kids were looking for. Refried beans were very good and my burritos were also very good. Service was outstanding! Chips and salsa very good. Salsa was very traditional not too spicy but we like it that way. You shouldn't be disappointed. I would give it 5 stars if it was totally traditional Mexican. But it was exactly what we were looking for. And trust me we hit some dives before. Thank you for not being a traditional beach restaurant! Very reasonable price too!!!

We went here spur of the moment on our trip to Myrtle anf honestly I wasn't expecting much. I ended up being very surprised with how good the food was. Everything was homemade, the chips and salsa were bomb! They had $2 Margarita specials till 6pm these even tasted like they were made fresh. The only thing was I couldn't get my margarita frozen with the special, not sure what the difference would be but overall a good experience.

My favorite food in the world is Mexican Food, so I'm really picky. The service is friendly, but slow and the food is not the best. I'm a super fan of food/recipes from Jalisco State, so I'm not sure what happened here :-( Three of us sampled lots of food and we all agree, Meh

Really clean, super great staff, and excellent food. Good kids menu too. Chips were fresh and warm. Decent salsa. Really good queso dip. The only down side was the margarita. I had a frozen margaritas, and at $4.50, it wasn't a bad price. However, I can taste tequila a mile away and there was little to none in my margarita. It was, however, very tasty. Saw a few construction workers which made me think that the locals go here.

Good food, chips could have been a little warmer/fresh but over all food was great, super decently priced and the customer service was above and beyond.

Great authentic food, very friendly, clean, adults must try the Jalapeño margarita, yum yum! Family friendly and rapid service, Carlos is a very good server.

Got all the way back to the condo and the $12 fajitas I ordered had no tortillas. Called and talked to the mgr and he says they haven't had any Togo orders (we were only gone about 20 min.) My daughters dinner was ruined. So irritated. Won't be visiting this location again.

My husband and I got an appetizer that it seemed like something that was just heated in a microwave or over precooked.... We also ordered a fajita dish and the pieces were sliced so thin and mixed with a bunch of onions and green peppers that made it seem like a lot of food... And the tortillas de main weren't fresh it's the store bought ones. Only thing I thought I was good was the salsa that came with the chips

Service was excellent and had a friendly atmosphere! However, had to take my burrito back twice. First time was streak instead of ground beef and had onions in it. Second time it was taken back for having onions again.

Pleasant surprise at this Mexican restaurant near the waterfront. Great authentic food and a bargain on price. Many vegetarian options as well!

Okay, so I'm kind of a Mexican food snob and I'm a LITTLE picky when it comes to how I like things prepared. But this was pretty darn good! The boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner on our last night in MB. It wasn't crowded at all when we arrived at 7:20, and we were seated immediately. Our waiter arrived seconds after that with hot chips and salsa (yessss), and he took our drink orders. We got a house margarita and a coronarita on the rocks, and both were fantastic and fairly priced - $4.25 and $6, respectively, which is is pretty good. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful the entire time, and our food came out in roughly ten minutes. My only gripe was that the chimichanga I ordered really wasn't prepared how I'm used to - they were basically taquitos, and maybe the restaurants I usually go to in MD are doing it wrong, but I was a bit thrown off. However, the shredded beef inside was tender and flavorful, and my boyfriend's Grande Special had tons of food with lots of flavor. Pretty good food, yummy margaritas, and awesome service! and with fair prices to boot! I would probably return!

First of all, this place can be ridiculously busy during tourist season. I had to wait an hour after I ordered for my food. The chips and salsa were pretty decent though. And I told the host about vomit near their front steps. They didn't clean it up and almost vomited my dinner when I saw it again. The food was alright. I had seafood fajitas. The service is kind of non existant, but I imagine it was because of the work load the waiters had. I won't be getting mexican food from here in the tourist season again.

The pros: good food, unique menu items. The cons: service was way too slow! Was busy but still.

Excellent service. Everybody was very friendly even those not involved with our service. Delicious Mexican food. Highly recommended.

Didnt like my enchiladas they came out cold and boring in flavor, the fajitas came out with all of the sides and we waited like 5 minutes for the sizzle plates to come out and they were barely sizzling, not loud and exciting. Under seasoned :( nice staff I was able to exchange my meal for some fajitas instead.

I LOVE EL CERRO and this is my favorite location. Everything is always great, I've never had anything on the menu that wasn't excellent. Best potato burritos I've ever had. They have great happy hour specials on large beers, and the juice they use in their cocktails is always fresh.

At dinner time on a Sunday the place was empty. Food: Chips and Salsa-warm chips with mild-good tasting salsa. Fajatia-pretty bland Quesadilla-unless you like the taste of 5 butter sticks in one quesadilla, you wont like it. Service: Food came out fast and hot. The waiter was attentive and polite. (Maybe because no one was there) Overall average food with great service, though will probably vary if this place has a crowd.

This location does not compare to the Surfside location! It's not as nice inside and while the good was decent as well as the service. I visited the bathroom while there and the hallway just plain out stunk. Not sure what it was but the kitchen entrance was that way too. Hmm.

We chose this based on yelp reviews and were very happy with our decision. There was no daily special like we thought, and they were out of pink lemonade, but beyond that, everything was great. Chips were served hot, salsa had a bit of a kick, drinks served quickly, and food came out in a good amount of time. The adults had a steak burrito that was huge and served with rice & guacamole; and cowboy chimichanga with rice and gaucamole. The beef & veggies were fresh in the burrito, the cheese sauce on the chimichanga was awesome! The kids got the mini pizza and quesadilla. Both ate their whole meal! We definitely recommend!

The food was great but the service needs to get better, we have to wait a couple times for refills and when our orders came. I didn't get flour tortillas for my tacos instead the waitress got me corn tortillas. Not I big deal but the attention to detail is what keeps restaurants on top from the competition.

Nothing Exceptional Not the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. I would try another place...if it is worse, then go to El Cerro. It was nothing special. Just so so. Not terrible, but will try other mexican restaurants in Myrtle Beach the next time we visit.

We were on vacation so I cannot compare this with other local Mexican restaurants, but having lived in California and now Connecticut (which is only now getting decent Mexican food, I would say this one was above average. We had chicken enchiladas with salsa verde, nice kick to the salsa and the chicken was nicely seasoned. We also had a combination plate that has a burrito, a tostada and a relleno. All were wonderful, I asked for a large margarita and the waiter said, 32 oz....he thought we wanted a pitcher, the margarita on the rocks was pretty good, far above average. Service was great, fast delivery of Chips and salsa when we entered. Quick delivery of our drinks and the wait for the mains was reasonable. If you are in myrtle beach and in the mood for Mexican you cannot go far wrong.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and had read the reviews of El Cerro Grande's other location and were unsure if we should go. I'm glad we went. I ordered the camarones al mojo (make sure you ask for extra tortillas - free of charge) and she got the chicken enchiladas. Both were amazing. The sauce on her enchiladas is something neither of us has tasted before. Almost like your typical Mexican mild hot sauce with a hint of barbecue. The service was better than I expected with multiple people including the manager coming by to serve us. Highly recommended!

Who knew you could get such good Mexican food in Myrtle Beach? Solid place with a huge menu. Tons of fajita/enchilada/taco options, as well as many other meat and fish dishes too. Great chips and salsa. Love the live music too! Such a find, this will be on my hit list every time back!

Their seafood dishes smelled reeeeeally fishy, and that always concerns me - doesn't the Food network say fish shouldn't smell like fish or it's not fresh? I know I've heard that somewhere. The serving sizes are enormous, and the cost for those portions is pretty average. It's not just the food that's plentiful, but the margaritas too! I thought I was going to have to help mom out of the restaurant - and she just had one! The atmosphere is fun and friendly, albeit a little crowded, but the music and television stations being broadcast in Spanish always adds a bit of entertainment to an otherwise average place.

Worst Mexican food we have ever tried. Ordered tacos, it came with just meat on a corn tortilla with nothing to put on top but onion and cilantro. No cheese, nothing....gross. Don't waste your time eating here.

While there still is a smoking section here, no one was smoking during our visit and we could enjoy our food. The service was friendly. I had my doubts that my order was going to turn out the way I wanted- they didn't have a vegetarian burrito listed on the menu so I asked for a particular entree with "with no beef"... the waiter replied "no beans?". I corrected "no beeF, no carne, guacomole instead". It did indeed arrive just like I wanted it. Whew! Everyone was friendly. But if you eat here for lunch during your workday, be prepared- they are a bit slow at giving your ticket. I have a friend who eats here regularly and she says this is always the case.

Ate here on vacation after checking into the hotel. Within walking distance from "the strip" on Ocean Blvd. Big portions, decent price, and friendly service! Just missed "happy hour" when we arrived but decided to have a margarita anyway... 16 oz was only $4.25 full price! (Should have had 2!)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
